Blackpool City Council Uses eLearning to Help School Governors

Blackpool City Council has recently begun to offer Modern Governor to its
Governors. Here’s what Blackpool’s Ann Dixon thinks of the e-learning service.

Why did you decide to offer Modern Governor to your School Governors?

We wanted to try e-learning for quite a while so, when we learned about the great service Modern Governor provides through various recommendations from other councils, we jumped at the chance. We have been really pleased with the courses and level of service to date.

What are the benefits of Modern Governor for Your Governors?

If I was to describe it in one word it would be convenience. The service is a great benefit for Governors who are parents allowing them to fit training around their lifestyle, plus the bite-sized format increases the flexibility. Modern Governor courses also compliment the new health & safety training we are currently providing.

What feedback have you had from your Governors about Modern Governor?

Governors were very excited about the service and how it could improve and add to the existing training regime. In meetings Modern Governor made a great impression and the Governors highly commended this new alternative method.

How do you integrate e-learning with the other training you offer your Governors?

If any Governor enquires about the service we point them to the Modern Governor website which contains detailed information on the courses and everything. We promote the service at training events and meetings.

How do you encourage Governors to use e-learning?

We mainly tell Governors face to face, in training sessions and generally word of mouth.

What would you say to someone considering purchasing Modern Governor?

Simple answer, yes. Governors from Blackpool enjoy this form of training and Governors from other councils have also commented
