Cheshire East LEA has recently signed up to offer Modern Governor to its governors.

Why did you decide to offer Modern Governor to your school governors?
We were looking at e-learning generally to help us deliver our learning and development to governors because Cheshire East is such a huge geographical area. We realised that some governors found it hard to attend face to face classroom based courses at set times and so we wanted another way for governors to access learning and development opportunities.
Modern Governor is much better than anything else on the market and the courses are very well designed in terms of their layout, clarity, content and accessibility.
What feedback have you had from your school governors about Modern Governor?
It’s still early days but the ad-hoc feedback we’ve had so far has been very good. Governors tell us they find the courses useful and easy to access. Over a third of our schools have registered so far, which is very encouraging, and we’re planning to get more formal feedback after half term.
How do you encourage school governors to use the e-learning?
We promote Modern Governor through briefing sessions and training sessions held throughout the county, as well as via all our communication vehicles. We’ve just written an article for our next Governor newsletter and, at our face to face sessions, we’ll demo one or more of the courses so that participants can see the courses themselves.
