Meet The Team
Welcome to Team Modern Governor! Click on our names for a little background information on us and details of our roles at Modern Governor.
What do you do at Modern Governor? I’m the Product Manager, looking after the product and our customers. Essentially, this means I co-ordinate everything to give Governors a great experience of Modern Governor! What was your nickname at school? As a redhead, I had all the usual nicknames – Ginger, Duracel, Carrot-top, copper-top. My initials were ET – so I also had to endure countless taunts of “phone home”! Sticks and stones, and all that…. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Crocodile or my sister’s Duck a l’Orange. Two things you consider yourself to be very good at? Multi-tasking and staying positive. What do you do at Modern Governor? As one of the Education Consultants, I share the concept of good e-learning to anyone and everyone interested in improving the management of schools. I use Modern Governor in every full Governing Body meeting and we all leave feeling that we’re more effective Governors. Where did you work before Modern Governor ? I taught Secondary Maths and led departments at a mixture of schools. What was your nickname at school? I don’t think I had one but school went by in such a flash it clearly was not cool enough to make me remember. What is one goal you’d like to accomplish during your lifetime? World Peace - not sure I have enough time. What do you do at Modern Governor? As an Education Consultant, I take the Modern Governor message out to Local Authorities and other interested parties – it’s great to get a fantastic reaction every time! Where did you work before Modern Governor? I was a secondary school teacher for 15 years and before that I was a graphic designer. What was your nickname at school? Macca – not very original, I’m afraid! What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Peanut butter and pickled beetroot on toast – try it! Two things you consider yourself to be very good at? Cooking curries. Eating curries. What was your nickname at school? Now that’s something I’ll never disclose! What is one goal you’d like to accomplish during your lifetime? Qualify and compete at the Olympics. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Grasshopper or similar in Korea. Two things you consider yourself to be very good at? Fencing (The sport not putting up fences) and eating chocolate. Where did you work before Modern Governor? I worked in Local Government for 8 years. What was your nickname at school? Didn’t have one, we used to call each other by our surnames. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Insects on a survival weekend. Two things you consider yourself to be very good at? Problem-solving and eating. Where did you work before Modern Governor? I’ve been working in e-learning for 15 years and for most of that time been designing effective and engaging and quite frankly rather wonderful solutions to meet people’s training needs. What was your nickname at school? Lindsey Lizard, due to having a lisp, or giraffe due to being about a foot taller than everyone else from age 9. What is one goal you’d like to accomplish during your lifetime? Travel. Have been lucky enough to see a lot of the world, but it’s a never ending quest. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Durian, a fruit found mainly in South East Asia, tastes lovely but has a very pungent smell leading it to be banned from the underground in many countries. Two things you consider yourself to be very good at? Getting stuff done and making my daughters laugh. If they made a movie of your life, what would it be about and which actor would you want to play you? A rollicking rollercoaster ride: thrills, spills, a little romance, intrigue, double-crosses, triple-crosses, a little sadness, car chases, irresponsible gun play, some marginal behaviour… and probably a zombie or two. If a British production then I would like to request the London actor Steve Sweeney… if a US production then nobody but Luis Guzman could possible do me justice. If you could visit any place in the world, where would you choose to go and why? Arizona in the 1880s. To hunt down the Red Ghost… What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Humble pie. It was horrible… I won’t be doing that again! Where did you work before Modern Governor? I’d freelanced as e-learning consultant for a range of clients – such as the BBC and University of Ulster. What was your nickname at school? Big Chief Charlie No Hair (my dad was the headteacher at my secondary school, and he had a hair deficit). What is one goal you’d like to accomplish during your lifetime? To cure my migraines. I think everything after that will be easy. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Honeyed locust, brought home from Egypt by my Grandad. I also drank a champagne and camel’s milk cocktail at a Moroccan restaurant during my wedding. Surprisingly moreish (although that was probably the champagne). Two things you consider yourself to be very good at? Listening and writing. Sometimes one feeds the other! Where did you work before Modern Governor? I was a freelance consultant working with various bits of the public sector, tasked with using the internet to make government a bit less boring. I spent 6 months at Number 10, which was fun. What was your nickname at school? ‘The Legend’. No, not really. Something dull like Briggsy, I’d imagine, though usually it would have just been some insult or another. What is one goal you’d like to accomplish during your lifetime? To not have to work. I still would, but not having to would be jolly nice. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Anything made by my son – I never know where his hands have been. Two things you consider yourself to be very good at? Not taking offence and knowing my limits. Where did you work before Modern Governor? After my degree, I was worked in retail management. What was your nickname at school? I honestly didn’t have a proper nickname – does ‘ Em ‘count? What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? I tried haggis at a friend’s wedding in Scotland. Surprisingly nice, although I don’t want to know what it’s actually made of… Two things you consider yourself to be very good at? Organisation in general and cooking.
