Meet The Team

Hello, welcome to Team Modern Governor!  Here’s a little background information on the team and details of our roles  at Modern Governor.

Elaine Walton Elaine MG Refresh

What do you do at Modern Governor? I look after our Modern Governor customers, working with them to find the best way to roll-out the programme to their schools and helping them to get the most out of e-learning.

Where did you work before Modern Governor? I was a pub restaurant manager in a former life, and moved into e-learning in 2003 after falling in love with it at first sight.  Since then I’ve worked in commercial e-learning in sales, Project Management and Learning Support, across industries like hospitality, healthcare and telecommunications and with a couple of public-sector contracts along the way.

What are your pet peeves or interesting things about you that you dislike?
Rude drivers – if I let you out at a junction, say ‘thanks’, and don’t tailgate me!  I’ve also recently developed a tendency to say “Do you know what I mean?” rather a lot, which is irritating everybody I know.  Do you know what I mean?

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Kangaroo and crocodile.  Both were rather tasty!  I couldn’t eat insects or anything like that though – ugh!

Two things you consider yourself to be very good at? Looking after people and keeping my promises.

What do you do at Modern Governor? I’m part of management team on the Modern Governor service and have spent most of last year meeting Local Authorities and Governor  support organisations.

Where did you work before MG? Mike spent 12 years ‘at the chalk face’ of learning, as a teacher of Secondary Maths. The chalk turned to touch sensitive screens and he left as Head of a very successful and leading department to train teachers on Information and Communications Technology. After falling head long into a role as a governor at his local school it seemed an obvious progression to tie governance and IT training together.

If you could visit any place in the world, where would you choose to go and why? I’d love to stand on top of Mount Everest and contemplate life!  Just need to work out an easy way to the top – but not sure if that ruins the moment!

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? I was cruelly tricked by several so called friends into eating a bowl of sweet meats on a recent holiday with them all sniggering behind menu’s as I wondered what I was eating.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done? I ran the Paris Marathon last year on a sweltering day and could have collapsed or stopped a hundred times but somehow kept moving.  Very proud of myself but was amazed how it became as much a mental struggle as a physical one.

What do you do at Modern Governor? Part of the management team at Modern Governor – I work with Local Authorities spreading the message of e-learning as another great way for school governors to develop in their role.

Where did you work before MG? I was a Design teacher and a Head of Year in secondary education for 13 years. Before that I was a graphic designer.

What is one goal you’d like to accomplish during your lifetime? Build my own home from scratch – better get a move on!

Are you a morning or night person? Night and early morning.

If I could be anybody besides myself, I would be- My wife…she’s so lucky!

Andrew Fenwick

andrewfenwickWhat do you do at Modern Governor? I create and maintain customers learning platforms (DLE’s), support customers and internally co-ordinate Modern Governor developments.

What did you do before Modern Governor?  I was a student at the Ulster University studying Business with Psychology.

Are you a morning or night person? Definitely a morning person.

Name the most famous person you’ve had a face to face encounter with? I went clubbing with Amir Khan and the Irish boxing team in Sicily.

If you could visit any place in the world, where would you choose to go and why? Cuba. I’ve never been there and I think it would be a great trip.
