Modern Governor spent last Saturday in Stockport at the GOVAS/Stockport MBC annual conference for their governors. It was great to meet so many dedicated governors giving up their Saturday to listen to speakers and join in workshops on a whole range of subjects. Stephen Adamson from the NGA opened with some useful thoughts about the way governing bodies can make themselves effective, and shared the 20 key questions they should be asking. (Read more on the NGA website here)

There then followed two short presentations on National Leaders of Governance and Safeguarding. Lynne Perry presented a short but very thought provoking session on “Sexting” and showed us a CEOP video and some startling NSPCC findings in relation to this important safeguarding issue. (Sexting is the sending of sexually explicit messages or images via technology) Lynne has kindly agreed to provide Modern Governor with a blog around this topic in the near future – thank you Lynne!

After brunch GOVAS held its AGM and the afternoon was then taken up with a variety of workshops, including one by former HMI Frank Norris.

More informtion can be found about GOVAS on their website  including forthcoming events and their newsletter.
