12 Jun Governor Live Step-by-step part 1: accessing via your smartphone or tablet
Last week we announced Governor Live – the first in a series of live online meetings hosted by Modern Governor and featuring Emma Knights from the National Governors’ Association. If you’ve already registered for Governor Live then you should have received an email confirmation with details of the first event, which will be held on Monday the 22nd of June at 7.30pm BST. Taking part on your computer is straightforward – after 7.15 on the evening of the 22nd, click the link in your confirmation email and log in using your username (which will be the email you registered with) and your chosen password. You’ll need speakers or headphones on your computer (to hear what’s being said) and there will be a number of ways to take part in the discussion.
Accessing Governor Live on your smartphone or tablet
It’s also possible to access Governor Live on your smartphone or tablet. First of all, you’ll need to install the free Adobe Connect mobile app to your iOS or Android smartphone or tablet. At the moment the Connect app isn’t available for Windows Phone, but if you’re using a Windows 8 tablet then should be able to access the meeting using your web browser, which has Flash built-in. For Android (Samsung, Sony, HTC and similar devices) you should install the Adobe Connect mobile app for Android, while if you’re an iOS user (iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch) then you should install the equivalent app from the iTunes app store.
Getting to Governor Live
Important note: you can practise this any time you like, but you’ll only be able to actually enter the Governor Live meeting about 15 minutes before it starts at 1930BST on the 22nd of June.
Once you start the app, you’re prompted to enter the address of the event you’d like to attend. Enter moderngovernor.adobeconnect.com/governorlive in the text field (you don’t have to start this text with http://):
Assuming you’ve registered (you must do so in order to participate in Governor Live – do so here if you haven’t already) then enter your username (which will be the email address you registered with) and the password you chose on registration:
Once you’ve done that and tapped the Enter button you’ll see that the app is accessing the event.
If you do all of this early (i.e. before the event is open for participants), you’ll see a message saying that the event isn’t yet started:
If you prefer your instructions shown and told, then here’s a narrated demonstration of how to access the event on an iPhone 6 – the process on Android is just about identical:
As soon as Governor Live starts you’ll be able to see and hear the presenters, material shared and interact with other participants. Watch out later next week for a further blog post explaining how that will work – and remember, if you’ve not-yet registered, then registration is free and takes only a couple of minutes – register here now and we look forward to seeing you on the 22nd of June!
