04 Nov Do you have a School Business Manager?
Recently, we exhibited at an event held by the Birmingham Bursars’ Group. It was the first event for bursars that we’ve attended and I was both surprised and impressed by how many people attended.
Birmingham City Council Governor Services team already subscribe to Modern Governor so, for me, it was a chance to raise awareness of Modern Governor in Birmingham schools and chat with schools that already subscribe.
I’ve noticed a lot more awareness of the Business Manager/Bursar role in schools. There’s an interesting article on the role of Bursar in free schools in the Education Executive today.
There are obvious arguments for this role in a school which doesn’t rely on the local authority for support services – like academies and free schools. But more and more maintained schools seem to be recruiting for the position too. Is this a reaction to increased financial responsibility? Increased budgetary expectations? Or is it a role that other members of the school team have traditionally carried out, but are no longer able to do so because of staff restructuring?
Are you planning to recruit one? What are your reasons?
Do you already have one? What have been the outcomes? What are your success stories?
