13 Feb Governor Live review: Governance at the start of 2017
The first Governor Live of 2017 took place last Thursday evening, the 9th of February. Our panel of Schoolsweek columnist Christine Bayliss and berg’s education partner Michelle Gray spent time looking at some of the issues which might be making their way to the agendas of our next board meetings and introduced the programme for the remainder of the 2016-17 academic year. Karen Rae of Armstrong Watson was unable to join us, but will be leading four of the ten Governor Live in-depth events which were announced during Thursday’s session.
Outline of the event:
After a brief introduction and some housekeeping, Christine Bayliss of C:BECS spoke about the new Governance Handbook & Competency Framework and spoke about the issue of risk management and some of the statutory and contractual requirements which those in governance need to be aware of. Michelle Gray from berg explored some of the broad issues facing schools and academies in terms of legislation and outlined how these will be addressed in forthcoming Governor Live sessions.
