During Thursday’s Governance at the start of 2017 event we announced a further ten free Governor Live CPD sessions to be held between March and July – free governance CPD covering, among other topics:

  • forthcoming legislation;
  • understanding finances & financial management;
  • HR issues;
  • safeguarding;
  • joining a MAT.

These will be led by the panel – Christine Bayliss, Michelle Gray and Karen Rae – who took part in the autumn term’s popular Considerations for Conversion series.

Who are these sessions for?

These sessions are for governors in maintained school, trustees or governors in academies & MATs and senior leaders from any institution. Even if a session’s topic looks to be specific to academies, we’d recommend that you attend even if your role is in a maintained school. This is because these sessions will give you a better understanding of what’s required for an academy and can therefore help you go into any conversion process with your eyes open, or make an informed decision not to do so, if that’s the outcome of your decision-making process.

How will these events differ from previous Governor Live sessions?

The events in the autumn term were panel-based – the sessions detailed here will normally be led by a single member of our panel and are intended to allow governors, trustees and school leaders to gain a deeper understanding of specific topics, rather than a more general overview of a broad subject area. Where appropriate they might contain demonstrations and examples of how to work through a relevant process and, in common with all Governor Live sessions, will offer ample time for Q&A and discussion among participants.

If you’re looking for an example of an in-depth, focused event with a single presenter then the Planning for succession event with Ruth Agnew is a good one – read the review and watch the recording here.

When are the sessions & how do I register?

All sessions start on Thursday evenings at 8pm and last for an hour – simply click on the links below to find out more and register.
