18 Dec Updated Ofsted module available
The revised Ofsted common inspection framework was released at the start of the autumn term and in the light of this we’ve worked to update the Modern Governor Ofsted module – which gives governors an understanding of what happens before, during and after an inspection, and what governors should be aware of and prepare for. The updated module is now available to all new and existing Modern Governor subscribers, along with the updated Pupil Premium module.
Ofsted in your pocket or bag
As with all new Modern Governor modules, the Ofsted module works brilliantly on any device – meaning a governor can start their learning on a regular desktop or laptop computer, continue on a smartphone and complete the module on a tablet. Completing the module generates a personalised certificate of completion, and advanced and flexible reporting means that an academy trust, local authority or even a development governor from your board can run a report to get an idea of which governors have enrolled on and completed which Modern Governor courses – including the expanding range of Core Skills modules.
The Ofsted module itself is divided into seven sections:
- Introduction – understanding what the purpose of an inspection is
- Short inspections of good schools – what a short inspection is and what they cover
- Before, during and after – identify the steps taken prior to, during and post-inspection
- General information – Ofsted’s expectations of the governing board
- Preparing for inspection – how governors can prepare themselves for meeting inspectors
- Quiz – revision of knowledge of the topics in this module
- Summary – a review of the main points of the module
Questions to check a governor’s knowledge and understanding are included throughout the sections, not just in the Quiz towards the end. As mentioned, once a governor logs in and starts the module, progress is recorded, meaning there’s therefore no need to complete a module in a single sitting – and the module can be revisited at any time. The friendly Modern Governor support desk offers support in using the service via telephone and email during the day, evenings and even at weekends and Bank Holidays, meaning that governors can get help, support and advice in using the modules at a time to suit them.
Accessing the update
Modern Governor subscribers can access the module immediately – just log in to the Modern Governor site. If you have previously completed the Ofsted module then you will need to take it again – the expanded content means you’ll need to retake it in order to be able to download, print and save the completion certificate. If you’d like to trial the Modern Governor service, then you can access five of the mobile-friendly learning modules – including two from the Core Skills collection – free for thirty days – with the Ofsted module is being available to governing boards who subscribe.
