Updates to the Pupil Premium module
As is said in certain circles – “another school year, another Ofsted Inspection Framework…”
The new framework (from August 2015) has changed the headings under which inspectors evaluate a school including the school’s use of Pupil Premium Funding, so the Modern Governor module has been adapted to match the new framework.
There have also been some changes in the amount of funding available and some minor changes to the wording of the regulations affecting which children qualify for funding.
The basic message remains the same – make sure your school is using Pupil Premium funding to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and narrow the gap between them and their peers. The school should have a clear plan to do this and regularly monitor the outcomes against clear success criteria. As a governor, it is not your role to drive this initiative but to ask the relevant questions to ensure that the Pupil Premium in being used as effectively as possible.

Questions for governing bodies
- Is the effective use of pupil premium funding & the achievement of those for whom the funding is provided a standing item on our governing body’s agendas?
- Do reports and information we get from our headteacher identify pupil premium recipients as a distinct group so that we can monitor impact and progress?
- Do we have a pupil premium governor? If so, how does s/he communicate her work to the remainder of the governing body?
